Fran Gratt.....Your Principal
"Success Starts Here...With our Kids in Mind!"
I am so proud to be the principal of Wolford Elementary School. It is the BEST job in the world!!! I cannot think of any other position that I would love to have. As the instructional leader, working with children and their teachers allows me to have a hand in shaping the future. Our children are the future and their potential can lead to endless possibilities for success.
I am starting my 13th year as the principal of Wolford. Prior to working in McKinney ISD, I was a principal and assistant principal in Richardson ISD. I have been in education for so many years....that I have lost count of all the years I have been an educator!! Before working in Richardson, I was a science and math teacher at various private schools. I graduated from the University of Central Florida with both Bachelor and Masters degrees in Education with a minor in Biology. I earned my Mid-Management certification from TWU.
One of the best things about being a principal is being able to work with children everyday. At Wolford, we are fortunate to have highly qualified staff members who enjoy working with children. Our teachers work hard everyday to ensure that all students under their care receive an excellent education. The teachers also develop relationships with their students and their families by truly caring about their students. When students know that their teachers care about them, students get empowered to do their personal best daily. Teachers at Wolford create engaging lessons for their students so that learning becomes exciting and authentic. Our teachers are life-long learners and are eager to support their students in the learning process.
William Butler Yeats once said: "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." At Wolford, we intend to light many fires...fires that will spark the imagination, fires that will give students the thirst for knowledge, and fires that will ignite the imagination so that innovation will happen for all members of our school community.
Now, a little about me and my family. I have been married to my husband Harvey for 50 years ( I was a child bride and am not really that old!!!!) We have two wonderful sons. Jason graduated from MIT with a PhD. in Materials Science Engineering. Our younger son, Benjamin has a Bachelor's degree from UTD and majored in Computer Science. Ben is married and has a beautiful wife, Stephanie. Our granddaughter Melodie is now working and becoming an independent adult.
School keeps me pretty busy, but when I have free time....I love to read, knit, bake, take walks, and just spend time with my family. It is my privilege to serve our community and please know that my door is always open if you have a question or a concern. I invite ALL members of our community to take an active role in the education of our most precious gift...our children.
